A Smattering of Duehrings

My first love resides with my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. I only know true love because He first loved me. As a result, I can love others. Here is my second love:

I am married to a girl named June. I met her at Calvary Bible College way back in 1993 when she was visiting a friend. She had attended Calvary previously, but had taken that semester off. However, she was back at Calvary the next semester.

We had some classes together, and soon became friends. I was honestly trying to “stay away” from girls and just focus on school. I was, after all, there to train for ministry. Staying away didn’t last too long…

Everywhere I went I saw June. Every time I turned around she was there. Our friendship grew stronger, and I found myself thinking about her more and more when she wasn’t around.

She was cute, fun, smart and had a strong faith (all still true!). I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. What’s more, she put up with me as I worked through some character flaws that had ruined my previous relationship. Who wouldn’t want to marry someone like that?

I love my wife dearly.

I have been a dad now for 13 years, not counting the “baby-in-the-belly” months that ended in the loss of our first pregnancy. There have been good times and not-so-good times, fun, laughter, pain and tears. Yet, hard work though it may be, and the rewards are not as tangible as I might sometimes like, I wouldn’t trade any of it away.

Today was one of those days that I got to see reward.
