Reading with Daddy

Friday, June 30th, 2006

When Eli wants to read, Eli wants to read. He loves to be read to which is great, but he never wants you to quit. I think I took this picture when Damon was reading this book for the 67th time in one sitting. As soon as you finish the book he jumps up like he is done and then runs right back, plops down on your lap again, and says “one more”(pronounced Un Moe). It is really cute and funny when you aren’t the one doing the reading.

I just thought this was a sweet picture.

Ready to go Swimming

swimming3

Today I was going through Molly’s clothes and pulling out the 6-9 month clothes. I can’t believe she is already moving into that size. Anyway, Micah was helping me and we found some swim suits in her size so decided to try them on her to see how they fit.

She wasn’t having nearly as much fun as we were.

Micah and Evan are so excited because they think Molly gets to go swimming with us all the time now that she has swim suits. I don’t think she would like it quite yet.

Terrible Two’s (again)

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

I am really not liking these terrible two’s.

Here is the new thing. Eli says something to me. Obviously it is very clear to him what he says and he wants me to acknowledge and repeat what he says. I usually don’t know what it was so I say “yes, Eli I know”. That isn’t good enough so he says it louder. I then try to guess what he might have said. This really makes him mad if I guess the wrong thing so he says it again LOUDER. I have to keep guessing till I get it right and then he says “yeah”, giggles, and goes on his way. This is driving me crazy!!!

I was making pizza today and trying to explain to Eli how hot it was in the oven while I was trying to get the pizza off the rack and onto the cardboard. As I am half way in the oven trying to pull it out he slams the oven door on me. Unbelievable! It was hot so he thought it should be closed. I try to keep him as far away from the oven and stove as possible. One day as I was telling him to stay back from the stove because it was hot and he came up and slammed his hand down on the burner. Luckly it wasn’t the burner that was hot, but that little boy is going to have to learn some lessons the hard way if he doesn’t watch it.

It is so peaceful in the morning until I let him out of his room. I swear its like letting an animal out of his cage. He comes out ready to take on the world. About 2 minutes after I let him out I wish I had waited just a little bit longer.

Today I really needed him to take a nap. Damon and I are going out tonight so we have a babysitter for the oldest four kids. Well, wouldn’t you know the one day I really NEED him to sleep so he isn’t a mess at the babysitters he doesn’t. I went in to feed Molly and rest after I put him and evan down and it appears that he tried to stuff everything in his room out from under his door instead of sleeping. If he had to break it, he broke it, if he had to tear it, he tore it. Everything that isn’t out in the hallway was right inside his door so that I couldn’t even open the door.

In many ways he has gotten really sweet. He now kisses me all the time and says “I wuv ew” to me. Its just that most of the time he is quite the handfull.

He is one of a kind, I will tell ya!

First Fishing Trip

Monday, June 26th, 2006

A month or so ago I took Maggie, Micah, and Evan to the store and bought them fishing poles. You might remember seeing a pic of them casting in the back yard. Well, here we are at the end of June, and I hadn’t even taken them fishing yet! Micah asked me yesterday when we were going to go fishing. I knew that it had to be now or never, so I told him we’d go after supper the following day. Over my lunch hour I picked up some hooks and bobbers, and got some night-crawlers after work. After supper we teamed up with my brother-in-law Phil and two of his kids, Owen and Malia, and headed out to a local fishin’ hole.

First Fishing Trip

The kids had a blast. I got coated with fish slime, covered with worm entrails, poked with catfish fins, and snagged by a stray hook. So, all in all, it was a great trip! Not bad for a first-time fishing trip. Maggie caught 2 catfish, 1 sunfish, and 1 bluegill. Micah caught jack squat, though he gave a valiant effort. Evan caught 1 little sunfish. Eli caught the wrath of Mommy for trying to jump in the water. Ha! June had stopped by to see how we were doing, and needless to say, she didn’t stay very long–she forgot to bring a leash for Eli! I felt a little sad for him, though. He wanted to fish so bad! When June got him out of the van, he just marched right down to where we were, grabbed my fishing pole which was laying on the ground, and started waving it around like he saw his brothers and sister doing. He was going to fish, too! Ah, well, another couple of years, little guy.

Weekend Project

Monday, June 26th, 2006

Damon went and bought and installed two storm doors for our back doors this weekend. I am so happy to finally have them. I was going to freak out if I had to say “Close The Door” one more time. Damon was going to freak out if our electric bill went up any higher. The boys just could not remember to shut the door when they would go in and out. Everytime I would go downstairs the door was hanging open.

Here is Damon hard at work…….
