Run, Mama, Run

This past month I have been starting to train for a few upcoming races this year. I talked my friend Rachel into doing all of the races with me this year so I now have a running/biking partner that lives right around the corner from me.

Today, we ran our first race…a 5K which was part of the Olathe Marathon. This was our break-in session for what’s to come over the next few months.

I am a jogger not a runner. I am a 10-11 minute mile girl. Damon challenged me to try to push myself a bit since after all it was a race. I pushed myself today and became a 9.5 minute mile girl for the day. I looked at my watch after the first mile to see that it had only taken me 9 minutes. That did it for me and I was on a mission. I thought I was going to throw up at the end, but I did it. They had the finish line at the top of a hill which didn’t make the end very easy to make up time at the end.

The coolest part other than the fact that it was 35 degrees outside was that they had chiropractors and massage therapists at the race. I got to have a free back adjustment and then a massage after the race for free! Well worth it for a little body torture.

So far here is the rest of our spring/summer schedule. :0) I ought to be knocked into shape by the end of the summer.

April 26 - 10K - we are still deciding between 2 of them

May 18 - Heritage Park Duathlon

June 7 - Hospital Hill 1/2 marathon

July 26 - Prairie Punisher Duathlon

I was just sent our “professional” picture that was taken today and added it above. The other girl is a girl from church that does most of the races with me.

Quiet Time

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Today during quiet time Maggie was doing her school work, Eli and Molly were sleeping and Micah and Evan were playing with legos. I took a little nap and when I woke up went to check on Micah and Evan and I couldn’t find them anywhere. I figured they must be up in the playhouse tunnel or in Damon’s truck because thats the only 2 places I can’t see from inside. It was too cold for them to be outside for too long. I went ahead and did some laundry and cleaned for awhile. Then I started getting concerned because I hadn’t heard a peep from them for way too long. I sent Maggie outside to search for them and this is where she found them.

Sitting in the van watching a movie. I guess it is more fun than sitting in front of a big tv watching a movie.

Miss Molly Turns Two

It seems like we have birthdays all the time around here. Today little Molly turned 2 years old. We started out the day by going to the Easter Extravaganza at our church. Molly got to experience her first ever Easter Egg Hunt. She wasn’t too interested in picking up the eggs, but she loved the candy that was in the eggs.

Tonight we had a little party for her. After a day of eating WAY too much candy the kids managed to find some room for cake and ice cream also. Molly loved it and after the first few bites decided not to waste time using her spoon. I think this is what we train them to do on their 1st birthday.

Molly is a huge blessing and brings so much joy to our family. We love her and thank God for her.

Today is Damon’s 36th birthday. It was very important to Maggie this year to make it a very special day for him. She organized a little party for him with the help of her brothers.

Happy Birthday, Damon. I love you.
