My Dear Two Year Old

Molly has managed to step right into her terrible twos lately. The boys always entered early so it took me by surprise a bit. She is almost three after all.

She has gotten really loud and demanding. The girl can scream, too. She also loves to argue. She thinks burping and farting are funny. (thanks big brothers) She mimics what everyone says all the time which is pretty funny.

At night when I tuck her into bed she always says, “Go tell daddy and go tell ALL the boys”. I have no idea what she wants me to tell them but she says it every single night. (just a little something I wanted to write down so I don’t forget it)

Here are a few highlights from my last few days with a 2 yr old…

I heard her screams and found her in the bathroom with her clothes completely soaked with the sink overflowing and an entire thing of soap emptied into the sink. The water was pouring over the edge of the sink flooding the entire bathroom.

She was playing with playdough and when I told her it was time to go clean it up she informed me that she had already cleaned it up and had put it all in her jeans pockets. You just try to get fresh playdough out of a little girls jeans pockets.

I found Molly and Eli with a box of bars of soap “making a snowstorm” Man, you should see the snow that falls when two kids pound together two bars of soap. It is amazing.

Molly got a tea set for Christmas. What was I thinking asking for a tea set for her. She loves it, but oh the messes a little creative girl can make with a tea set. Of course they have to use water, sugar, food, etc. to have a tea party. (Check out Eli’s arm and you will get an idea of how wet everything was around there.)

So, I try to take pictures and enjoy these days. I know I will miss them someday. I have been watching old home videos of when the others were going through these days. Man, I miss them being this little even though it is hard while you are going through it.

I love my little Molly and don’t want her to ever grow up.

The Big Christmas Picture

A few weekends ago we all got together for my parents big family Christmas picture. They have done this every single year for the last 40 years. Now days we do some of the pictures with just the grandkids to make it just a little bit easier. Ha! Last year we did a professional one with all of us in it so this year was the break.

We went to my brothers business, Con Carpet, to take the pictures. We did a few different poses. This isn’t the picture or pose they used for their Christmas card, but it is one shot we took.  After the pictures the boys had fun climbing on all the carpet in the big back room.

Then my parents took the whole clan out to a pizza buffet. I am sure they loved seeing us walk through that door. It would have been even more funny to show up on Tuesday night “Kids Eat Free”. Now that would have been funny.

Our Christmas celebration started out last weekend with Damon’s Ma and Kurt coming down. We had dinner with them and Jeremy’s family on Saturday night. Then Maggie and Micah read the Christmas story from Luke 2 before opening our gifts.

Then on Tuesday night we had our little family Christmas time. We did our yearly tradition of driving around looking at Christmas lights first and then stopping for dinner. When we got home we let them open their stockings and a few gifts that had been mailed to us.

Wednesday night we went to our church’s Christmas Eve service. Damon sang in a men’s choir and the kids sang in a kid’s choir. During the candlelight songs at the end I thought the kids just might start the church on fire (or someones hair). Damon was singing in the choir so I had 6 kids with candles. That was exciting stuff for them to all hold their own candle. Yikes!

After the service we headed to my parents house in Hutchinson and got there around 10:30 that night. We had a big Christmas lunch on Thursday and then went to Susan and Greg’s new home to open gifts. We headed home on Friday night and now the kids are very busy with all their new toys and gadgets.

Merry Christmas!

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. We are now home and I will share a few Christmas pictures soon.

By the way, we just got done enjoying almost 70 degree weather on the day after Christmas in Kansas! Is that not crazy? It is thunderstorming tonight and we are under a tornado watch right now. This is my kind of winter. Of course, it is supposed to snow tomorrow so my dream day is about over.

UPDATE: Damon and I were jolted out of bed at 4:00am with what sounded like a tornado. We had 75 MPH winds. It ripped our neighbors shingles right off their house. It was a little scary.

The Most Decorated Cookies in the World

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

We have had 3 cookie decorating parties this past month. At this particular party the kids went nuts. At one point Eli was just eating icing straight from the bowl. This is what happens when you let the kids have fun and do whatever they want. Ha! My kids teeth are going to rot.
