Shell Island

island13

Our one main outing for the week was to Shell Island. It is an undeveloped island where you are free to take whatever you find home with you. There are no bathrooms on the island. I know, kind of a risky choice for our family.

So, we boarded a shuttle and headed out to the island for the day.

They ditched us at the island and it was so so hot out there.

island11

That is alright because we are by the ocean and we can swim and keep cool, right?

island1

Oh no! What is lurking in the water all along the shore? Is it safe to enter the water?  Who knows, but we are all to scared to try.

So, we plant our little umbrellas in the sand and start to hunt for seashells.

island2

We find so many cool seashells that we can barely get them all home with us at the end of the day. Don’t you worry, we took about 20 buckets so we were prepared.

island5

Then we find this cool little pool of water off the main water where the kids can keep cool. Praise the Lord for this. No sting rays in this water!

island4

Then the kids decide that we need to take home 9 hermit crabs. One for each of them. But then the daddies decide they have to leave them on the island so they walk their little selves right back into the water, shell and all. Their lives have been spared.

Then we finally board the shuttle to head back at the end of the day. Very burnt and very tired.

Florida Vacation

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I am finally catching up on the last few months of blogging. I HAVE to put pics of our Florida trip up. The kids look at our blog all the time and it always brings back memories for them. So, here we go. Lots of pictures.

It was the perfect relaxing vacation. The biggest decision of the day was pool then beach or beach then pool. It was tough. There was hardly anyone there. The beach was mostly empty. The pools were almost always empty. It was perfect.

We had a house that slept 25. There was one big room that was just filled with bunk beds. Kind of camp style. The kids were so excited when they saw it. They built forts all over the room and loved going to bed at night. They would just go to bed because bed was so FUN.

Evan Turns Green

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The kids went on a field trip to Shawnee Mission’s Hospital lab. They looked through the microscope to look at all kinds of cells. Before they left they decided to show them a few things that had just entered the lab. A fresh placenta and an amputated foot. Yeah, I am serious. They about lost Evan. They said he turned green immediately. I guess he won’t become a doctor after all.
